Decals

Protecting Decals

I knew I wanted GS stripes on my car, but didn't want to commit to painting them on - just in case after a while I stop liking them and want to go without. GM offers factory decal kits for the Grand Sport (and others), but I was very concerned about how to protect those decals. My SS Camaro had a factory decal on the top and after cleaning bird crap off of it, I noticed the decal didn't look as good as it should of if painted. Consequently, immediately after installing my new factory decals, I discussed my concerns with SCA. They were able to buff and treat the decal sections like the painted section and after buffing and protecting I was blown away at how it looks. I couldn't tell if they were decals or paint.

Paint Correction

I hadn't heard of paint correction prior to this experience. It is the key process of perfecting the paint surface prior to applying a protectent. SCA spent many hours making sure the surface was the best that it could be prior to applying a protection product.

Revivify

Paint Protection

For the last several years, the only thing I heard about was the ceramic coating process for the best protection. SCA invests a lot of money in understanding the latest product offerings and attending annual training conventions to make sure their staff is executing the best service possible. For my car, they selected a self healing protectent called Revivify to keep my car looking great for longer than ceramic. Rather than having a hard finish like ceramic, it has a soft (yet beautiful) finish that absorbs minor abuse (like light surface scratching) and actually benefits from the sun (similar to a heat gun smooths out a wrap) to effectively erase the blemish!

Grand Sport Wheels

Wheels

SCA didn't simply clean my wheels. They removed them, polished them, and then added the same protectant to the entire wheel. So now my wheels have a complete protection to make them WAY easier to clean. At the same time, I changed my brake pads to low dust ceramic pads that finally correct that horrible dusting problem on these cars that are even more evident with black wheels. The results of all of this, give me much more time to look good between washing.

You can't put a ceramic coating on your leather seats... but you can put your exterior paint protection (Revivify) on your seats... and you get the same long lasting level of protection.

Corvette Paint Maintenance

Ongoing Maintenance

The dust and crap collects and it is time to clean. But most common methods of cleaning can actually introduce scratches to the paint surface (although the protectent will help with this). My primary cleaning method was to keep the car wiped clean after drives, which prevented me from having to water wash. It turns out that both wiping with and without products simply rubs the dust/dirt into the surface and introduces scratching. Wet washing finds you dunking your mit/rag into dirty water (adds dirt to your soapy water each time you dunk - even if you hose your mit/rag prior to dunking you don't get it all) and then uses those left overs to help scratch your surface while you clean. What is the solution? Well, for me... I take my car back to the professionals for cleaning to make sure that doesn't happen. If you are in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, trust SCA to do it right. If not, do your homework and make sure your detailer of choice has the ongoing education and training to do the right things to your car.
