Our goal should be to help create stars. Star racers, star dealers, star organizations, star sponsors... and we can create stars by Liking, Sharing, Commenting, and Subscribing to those things related to our sport.
"It is the fan or racer that will start the viral event that gives someone that boost towards stardom."
Consider the golf industry before Tiger Woods... when he first came on the scene competitors and others in the industry threw a fit and would not embrace him... a horrible move, as even without their support that one superstar elevated their entire sport. There is room for everybody, and when we partner and any of our partners "hit it big"... we all benefit. A goal for all us is to do what we can to elevate all of the contributors in this sport. Many of the groups have topics that intersect, so it is worth reading them all to find out how they may benefit you.
Folks outside of this sport don't really care if we have tracks to go to or not, in fact they gather together to plan how they can do things to further push us out by whatever means necessary. If we cannot make significant changes quick, we may not be able to enjoy this sport in the future. For over 25 years, I have been the project manager on several multi-million dollar projects... and experience tells me that if we don't create plans and goals to accomplish specific milestones, we will fail. I propose to look at the growth of our sport as a project where we provide information, train, and implement solutions that will continue to move us to these goals.
There was a time in the 80's when my friends and I used to ride our bikes to PIR to watch Formula USA racing. The stands had lots of spectators, and the entire road behind the grandstands was packed full of motorcycles, so it was like going to a race and bike show in one event. Those days are gone. A typical OMRRA race weekend in 2018 finds lots of empty seats, room in the pits, and minimal sponsor presence.
What caused it? Some would say the competing motorsports (like motocross and NASCAR), bad press from accidents, insurance issues, video games, social media. So what is the answer?
I attended many OMRRA events this year, and noticed a rise (albeit small) in spectators from the beginning of the season to the end. Fan friendly highlights (like the Pit Bike Race and the Lemans starts) were obviously popular and I'm convinced that if more fans knew things like that were happening, they may attend just to see those things.
The first thing that must be clearly understood by everyone is that "every one has a role". The thing I personally have a hard time hearing is - my life is too busy to help promote the sport. Look around my website and understand everything you see here is my hobby - I have a real job like you do. The bi-product of everyone helping, will be more people, more bikes, more sponsors, and more opportunities... it will become evident that collaborative efforts will benefit us all.
To help, I am identifying various groupings and specific problems and solutions... so we can all associate ourselves with the groups we are related to and see how some of the solutions could be easy for us to implement.
